Celebrating a Decade of Grace: Our 10th Year Church Anniversary

This July, our church family reached a remarkable milestone — ten years of walking in God’s grace, growing in fellowship, and impacting lives. What began as a small gathering of faithful believers has flourished into a vibrant community of worship, service, and love. To mark the occasion, we held a week-long series of events that reflected our spiritual journey, mission, and joy in Christ.

Highlights of Our Anniversary Celebration

July 18 – Anniversary Lecture (Online)
We opened the celebrations with an inspiring online lecture reflecting on our church’s journey over the past decade — a time of deep reflection, encouragement, and renewed vision for the future.

Our guest minister, Venerable Dr. Paul Dajur, General Secretary of the Church of Nigeria, delivered a thought-provoking message on the theme “Reclaiming the Mission: Restoring the Integrity of God’s Work in a Church-Weary World.” He spoke on the challenges facing the modern church, warning that moral failures, financial opacity, and self-centered leadership often hinder God’s mission and fuel public skepticism. Drawing from Genesis and Matthew, Dr. Dajur called for a return to God’s original, dynamic, and transformative mission, urging believers to live with humility, engage in self-examination, and persevere despite opposition.

Quoting Gandhi’s words, “I love your Jesus but I hate your Christians,” he challenged the church to embody authenticity, disciple believers who live out the gospel, and extend God’s mission into every sphere of life — social, political, cultural, and economic. He emphasized transparency, accountability, and moral integrity as keys to regaining trust and sustaining influence, concluding that this anniversary should serve as a launchpad for renewed mission.

July 19 – Evangelism and Outreach
We reached out to our community in love, partnering with the Igbo Association Ottawa-Gatineau to share the gospel and extend practical help — a powerful reminder of our mission to be salt and light in the world.

July 20 – Church Picnic
Families, friends, and members gathered at Vincent Massey Park for a joyful day filled with laughter, games, delicious food, and warm fellowship — a beautiful reminder that the church is truly a family.

July 26 – Confirmation and Mothers’ Union Enrollment Service
A day of spiritual growth and commitment saw members confirmed in the faith through the laying on of hands by our Lord Bishop, Rt. Rev. Dr. Martyn Anagbogu. Women were also formally enrolled into the Mothers’ Union.

July 27 – Thanksgiving and Recognition Service
We gathered to thank God for ten glorious years and honor individuals who have played key roles in our journey. The Adeyemo and Ezeilo families were conferred knighthoods by the Lord Bishop in recognition of their dedicated service to the church.

July 29 – Revival Service (Online)
The celebrations concluded with a powerful revival service led by Rt. Rev. Foreman Nedison, Diocesan Bishop of Jalingo, who preached the message “Keep Moving Forward.” Drawing from Exodus 14:15 and other scriptures, he reminded us that God’s plan leaves no room for stagnation — believers are called to move from glory to glory and strength to strength until Christ returns. He cautioned against four obstacles to progress: past successes, past failures, life’s trials, and defeat.

Bishop Nedison stressed that vision fuels progress, gratitude unlocks blessings, and faith transforms trials into testimonies. Through personal stories, he showed that no setback is permanent for those who are “more than conquerors” in Christ. He closed with prophetic declarations and blessings, urging us to see the anniversary not as a resting point, but as a launchpad into greater purpose.

It is our prayer that the good Lord will empower, renew and strengthen our Rector in this new office.

Also, we want to thank the Diocesan of ADOTT, the Rt. Rev. Dr. Adebogun for granting our Rector another opportunity to serve God in a new capacity. May the Lord bless his ministry as he leads the diocese into a brighter future. THANKSGIVING SUNDAY 2021

Praise the LORD, my soul; all my inmost being, praise His holy name. Praise the LORD, my soul, and forget not all His benefits — who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion. That is what we are saying as a family of the Church of the Cross this weekend. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone and every family out there. We are not consumed because His mercies are new every morning.

What God is expecting from us:

  • Acknowledge His goodness and faithfulness

  • Express your gratitude unto Him

  • Tell others what He has done in your life.

From now henceforth, let every day be your day of thanksgiving. Do not wait until Thanksgiving Day to give Him thanks. Let it be a lifestyle, that is how we conquer and remain on top. Let us with a gladsome heart, praise the Lord, for His kindness, praise Him at all times. Next year, you shall have more reasons to thank Him.
